Lanikai Pill Boxes

This hike is 3 miles if you do the entire loop or if you just go to the 2nd bunker and back then its about a mile.  The ascent is steep 500' in 1/4 mile.  The pillboxes were part of the island's defensive system.  They were observation posts built between World Wars I & II, which could alert shore artillery batteries to any approaching enemy ships.  They eventually were stripped out and left abandoned by the military.

View from inside the 1st pillbox.

Looking back at the pillbox we ate lunch at.
